Anna Baker Woman At The Bottom of the
River
I
must undrown myself
All
night I hover along the flowered edges
Of
canals I want everyone to come out of
their houses
They
sleep so long
If
only they could see the street lamplight
How
it falls on the water and does not sink
Even
those under rivers are not strangers
Tell
them to come out of their houses
Tell
them the light dips on the water
Call
my old friends the men around tables drinking
Next
to moving trains
Ask
them if they remember me
